Creatures of habit

Adam is a creature of habit. This is what he likes to do:

He's done this since before he could walk. As soon as he was tall enough, one of his favorite places to line up his cars became the counter (2nd picture above - pre-new counter top) . He drives them from one end to the other - starting by the telephone, going in front of the sink, around the corner, and across the stove, until he gets to the other end where he can park. He then returns for another car and starts the journey again.
Do you notice anything else on the counter, near the origination parking area? Here's a close up:Phil is also a creature of habit. When he walks into the house he goes straight to the kitchen counter and unloads his wallet, his keys, his watch and anything else that might be weighing him down. That's why this key thing was so crazy. He was certain that he left it all in the usual place when he came home from his Sunday meetings. When he was leaving for work on Monday morning, he picked up his watch and his wallet and his other keys from this exact spot. The loose Tribute key (that isn't on either of our key chains so that we can more easily pass it back and forth, seeing as we only have one) had vanished, apparently into thin air. I'll give you one guess - where do you suppose we found that missing key?
My friend Sue stopped by yesterday after work. I had pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I would never see the key again - at least not until after new keys were purchased and our car was re-programmed, rendering the old key useless. Sue said that she would help me look some more, and while I was telling her that it was no use, she headed upstairs. I'm not even kidding - within five minutes she came back downstairs with the key in hand. WHUTTTT!!?! She walked into the play room and noticed the car bucket. She remembered that Adam had the cars out on Sunday, so she starting digging through it - and Voila! there was the key, just laying there, acting all innocent. Clearly there was no remorse for all of the commotion and aggravation that it had caused.

As soon as Phil got home he took the key from me and refused to return it until he extracted a promise that I would go get another key TODAY. I agreed, but just to avoid any perception that I'm getting a new key because Phil is making me, everybody needs to remember the pledge that I already made. I'm getting a new key because I decided to all on my own.

And, thanks to Sue, I'm doing the happy dance once again:

Do you happen to have a pronunciation for that, and maybe a translation. I'm kind of wondering if you just called me a really, really bad name. Either that, or you said something rude about Phil since you remembered what a jerk he was the last time we had key issues and I got stuck on the bus.

Maybe it has to do with Sue??!??

Or it stands for something. Each letter is the beginning of a word in a very long sentence. Good luck with that.

Have you gotten your key yet?

I think you had better RUN ... not WALK to the nearest dealer and get that key made p.d.q. before it get's lost again. But did you notice how ironic, to find the car key among a bunch of cars.

Actualy, the irony of the car bucket holding the missing car key was completely lost on me. Now that you point it out, Myrn, that IS pretty ironic. It's also pretty ridiculous that I completely forgot that Adam had the cars out on Sunday.

Yeah, uhhhhh, I don't think I have the brain power to figure it out and something tells me that it would probably bug me anyway so maybe it's best if I just go with my original assumption - you are calling me a really, really bad name.

And no key yet. The Mazda dealership in Orem doesn't appear to be answering their phone - for the past two days. I'm starting to wonder if they have closed shop.

Sue is a GREAT friend to have. She totally saved my bacon on this one. Can you imagine how annoyed I would have been in a week or two when the car bucket was dumped out by one of the boys and the key came tumbling out??!? That would have been worse than if it had just gone out with the trash never to be seen again.

this is reminding me of that awful time your keys slipped out of your hands and dropped down the elevator shaft. i think your keys are trying to somehow punish you.

and i totally believe you made the decision on your own. that's so like phil to try and take credit. :) hehehe.
