Say what? - Out of the mouth of Adam

A conversation between Adam and I that occurred after he got home from school yesterday:

Adam: Two kids brought Pokemon cards to school today.

Me: Really?? Did they get in trouble?

Adam: Yeah. And their cards got taken away.

Me: See? When you break the rules the teacher will usually find out.

Adam. Yeah . . . cause I told on them.

Me: You told on them?

Adam: Uh-huh.

Me: Ummmmm . . . it's probably better if you don't tell on other kids like that.

Adam: Other kids tell on me all the time.

Me: And how does that make you feel?

Adam: Bad. But if I can't take my cards to school, then they can't take theirs.

Me: How about this? If other kids are doing things that might hurt themselves or somebody else, then you should probably tell a teacher, like if they bring a knife to school. But if they are doing something that isn't going to hurt somebody else, maybe it's best if you just let the teacher find out another way.

Adam: pondering, pondering, pondering

Me: What do you think about that?

Adam: Kids can get hurt with Pokemon cards. They can give you really bad papercuts, mom. Really they can, so it's a good thing that I told a teacher.

*sigh*
